ZABENE to resume in Waikouaiti Cup New Year's Day

FORTUNA'S veteran galloper, the eight year old, ZABENE, makes his resumption in the Waikouaiti Cup on New Year's Day.

An impressive winner of his last start, the ( Listed) Metropolitan Gold Club Trophy, ZABENE has been spelling since being late scratched from the NZ Cup due to Heavy Track conditions. FORTUNA Director, John Galvin, is very pleased with his charge. " He has been jumping out of his skin in his work and ready to go a bold race. However, it is a resuming run for him over the 1975 metre distance and he has not had the benefit of a trial, due to trials being canceled, so he may just need this run. However, he is very well placed at the weights and whatever the outcome, he will take huge improvement from the outing."

ZABENE will be ridden on the day by his regular trackwork rider, Jillian Morris.

ZABENE is being set for a campaign at the Wellington Carnival in late January with the Trentham Stakes as an initial target and then possibly a tilt at the Wellington Cup.
