Fortuna will be securing Yearlings at Karaka 2010

Click here to register your interest in a Fortuna 2010 yearling

Fortuna Director, John Galvin, will be present at the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sales in the first week of February.

Fortuna commissions David Ellis and Mark Walker to research and examine likely yearling prospects in the months before the sale and David and Mark have drawn up a list of prospects for both their own Te Akau stable clients and Fortuna.

"Our brief to David and Mark is very simple," explains John Galvin. "We instruct them to acquire for Fortuna nicely bred athletic types in the $60,000 to $120,000 price range."

This is a formula that has worked well for Fortuna Syndications in the three years since its establishment with six of the eight horses who have been to the races so far having been winners, including Tell A Tale with six wins from eighteen starts and almost $1.1m in Stakes earnings, Rio Fortuna with two wins, including a Listed Stakes race from just four raceday starts and Volkarrie who now has three wins from twelve race day starts.

Fortuna syndicated four horses during 2009 and all filled very quickly. "We have built up a significant client and prospective client mailing list now" said John Galvin, " and as a result of this we get strong demand for our yearlings as we promote them."

John Galvin says that the best approach for anybody who is considering taking a share in a yearling in 2010 is to register their interest NOW with him. This can be done by clicking here or calling John directly on 021-921-460

Barely a Moment-Grey Danz Two Year Old Colt

PLEASE NOTE THIS COLT HAS NOW BEEN FULLY SUBSCRIBED. PLEASE REGISTER WITH US USING THE CONTACT SECTION (OR CALL JOHN GALVIN DIRECTLY) IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS INTEREST IN ONE OF THE YEARLINGS WE WILL BE ACQUIRING AT KARAKA 2010.

Fortuna Ltd is delighted to announce it has acquired this magnificent 2yo Colt by the exciting Multiple Group One winning Australian Sire, Barely a Moment.  We acquired this Colt at the recent NZ Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale.  This horse has been broken in, pre-trained and had his first stable preparation including a jump out trial and a “breeze up” prior to sale and so is “ready to run.”

This Colt is a real “looker”, he has size and athleticism and was keenly sought at the Sales.  David Ellis, who acquired the horse for us, says that he believes this Colt is the “most athletic” Colt he has ever acquired for Fortuna Syndicates.

“I have been looking at this Colt since he was a yearling; he is just the sort of Colt that I like to train. He is physically correct, strong, has a beautiful action and a superb temperament. I am delighted that David Ellis was able to secure this Colt for Fortuna Syndicates.”

- NZ Champion Trainer, Mark Walker

Barely a Moment was an outstanding 2yo winning the Group One VRC Sires Produce Stakes.  As a 3yo, he did not win at Group One level but was highly competitive, running second in the Group One Caulfield Guineas.  He trained on in brilliant fashion as a 4yo, taking out the Group One Dubai Invitational (1400 metres) and the Group One Toorak Handicap (1600 metres) before running 2nd in the Group One Salinger Stakes, giving the winner, Glamour Puss, 5kg.  He suffered an injury in this race and was retired to stud.  His dam, Grey Danz won once and is a daughter of the Golden Slipper winner, Danzero (by Danehill).

So, this Colt has a very nice pedigree which, coupled with his size, athleticism and temperament, gives us a lot of confidence about his potential ability on the racetrack.  The Colt has now gone to Paul Pertab’s property at Wardville, near Matamata for two to three weeks pre training. During this time Mark Walker will assess him and make a decision as to whether he goes to the trials or goes out for a spell before commencing a new preparation in the New Year.

Our initial assessment is that this Colt will be an Autumn 2yo but will train on nicely and make a lovely Spring 3yo. Clearly, a race like the $1m Group One NZ 2000 Guineas in November 2010 would be a primary target for him..

He is to be syndicated into 20 shares at $5,800 per share. Ongoing costs for investors into this syndicate will be $135 per month per 5% share. Full details of all costings are outlined in the Disclosure Statement and Syndicate Agreement.

Please note also we are able to offer terms (over six months) to approved purchasers of shares in these yearlings. Conditions apply.

Applications can only be made after investors have received and signed a NZTR approved Disclosure Statement.

Kings Chapel-Capewin Two Year Old Gelding

Fortuna Ltd is delighted to announce it has acquired this magnificent 2yo gelding by up and coming sire and 2004 Horse of The Year Kings Chapel. This horse has been broken in, pre-trained and had his first stable preparation including a jump out trial and so is “ready to run.”

He has size (already close to 16 hands) and is very athletic. He bears a remarkable physical resemblance to another Kings Chapel colt, Kings Ransom, last season's dual black type winning (the Group Two Wakefield Challenge Stakes and the Listed Ford Fairview Slipper) 2yo.

Sire Kings Chapel was an outstanding racehorse at Two, winning the Mercedes Classique (now known as the Karaka Million) and at Three, winning the Group One NZ 2000 Guineas, the Group One Telegraph Handicap over 1200 metres at Trentham and the Group One Otaki-Maori WFA over 1600 metres. The dam is Cape Win, an unraced Cape Cross mare from a very prolific and successful family.

This gelding is a well developed athletic 2yo who on pedigree and conformation is going to make a very competitive Three Year Old.

He is to be syndicated into 20 shares at $3,750 per share.

“I am really happy to have this horse in my care. He is big and strong with a lovely temperament. He has shown us a lot in his preparation to date and he bears an uncanny physical resemblance to Kings Ransom, who was a top 2yo for us last season.”
- NZ Champion Trainer, Mark Walker.

Ongoing costs for investors into this syndicate will be $135 per month per 5% share. Full details of all costings are outlined in the Disclosure Statement and Syndicate Agreement.

Opportunities from 2009 Karaka Premier Sale

Lot No 4 - Pins-Georgiana Colt

This colt featured strongly on our short list and we were delighted to secure him for a price well under what we thought we would have to pay.

A Colt by Sire PINS out of the Nassipour mare, GEORGIANA, who is a half sister to  multiple Australasian Group winner, STAR DANCER. The Pins Colt is a half brother to the very smart filly, FILANTE ETOILE, who won up to 2150 metres and was 2nd in both the Group One NZ Oaks and the Group Two Waikato Gold Cup.  This colt is a well developed athletic yearling who on pedigree and confirmation is going to make a very competitive Three Year Old. He is to be syndicated into 20 shares at $6,500 per share.

“I am really happy to be able to train this colt. He has plenty of scope to mature into a lovely Three Year Old and his pedigree and conformation suggests that he would be an ideal contender for the 2010 NZ 2000 Guineas and then train on for the NZ Derby in the autumn of 2011”

Lot No 628 - Tale of The Cat-Luxury Filly

We wanted to secure a well bred athletic filly at this year’s sales and this filly met our criteria perfectly.

By TALE OF THE CAT, sire of boom Fortuna Three Year old, TELL A TALE, this filly is closely related to the Champion NZ 2YO in 1999/2000, SPRING RAIN, who also went on to run 2nd and 3rd in the Group One Telegraph Handicap in successive years. TALE OF THE CAT is a truly International Sire, who has made his mark leaving winners all of the world. This filly combines a lovely pedigree with a very tidy conformation.

This outstanding filly is to be syndicated into 20 shares at $7,000 per share.

“When I bought Tell A Tale, I called John Galvin and told him that I had just bought him a colt that could win the 2000 Guineas and so it proved. My call with this filly is that she is just the type that can win the 1000 Guineas in 2010"
- Te Akau Principal, David Ellis.
