Opportunities from 2008 Karaka Premier Sale

Lot No 1 - Captain Rio-Bahira Colt

Captain Rio-Bahira Colt We had identified this colt as a strong prospect some time ago, were doubtful if we could secure him within our price range, but being Lot No 1 was to our advantage as buyers were not "in the groove."
A Colt by International shuttle Sire CAPTAIN RIO out of the Group winning Volksraad mare, BAHIRA. BAHIRA won the Group 3 WRC Thompson Handicap and her dam, CONIFER BAY was a Group 1 winning mare. This colt is a strong, powerfully built that will make a very smart two year old but has the scope to turn into a very good three year old. He is to be syndicated into 20 shares at $9,500 per share.

“This is just the sort of horse I love to buy; strong, a real athlete. He will make his mark for sure”
- NZ Champion Trainer, Mark Walker.

Update as of 20th August 2008: The Captain Rio colt has been broken in, has spent time at the main Te Akau stable, is now spelling and will resume the next stage of his preparation shortly. He has furnished up into a strong powerful colt, very muscular through the shoulder and front section. He now has a name, Rio Fortune, and there is just one 5% share available at $9,500 plus ongoing monthly payments of $125 per month (monthly payments are backdated to 1st April 2008), so total ingoing costs for this share are $10,250 which includes the 1st September monthly payment. This Colt looks to have all the characteristics of a strong two year.

Lot No 126 - Choisir-Our Love Filly

Choisir-Our Love Filly We had wanted to get a filly at Karaka this year and were rapt to secure this one at a very good price.
Her sire, CHOISIR was an outstanding Group One winning sprinter in Australia and franked that form by winning at Royal Ascot in England at Group One level. The dam, FOR LOVE, by Omnicorp, was a classy, Group winning racemare. She is a lovely, athletic type who is to be syndicated into 20 shares at $7,100 per share.

“A really lovely filly, she looks like a real runner”
- Te Akau Principal, David Ellis.

Update as of 20th August 2008: Everything has gone to plan with this filly’s early preparation. She now has a name, Chanson d’Amour, has been broken in, completed the first stage of her preparation, performed creditably at the jump out trials and is set to trial at Taupo on Sept 2nd. There are four 5% shares available at $7,100 plus ongoing monthly payments of $125 per month (monthly payments are backdated to 1st April 2008), so total ingoing costs for each of these shares are $7,850 which includes the 1st September monthly payment. Chanson d’Amour represents great value at this entry price as the filly/broodmare market is very strong.
