There’s never been a better time to race a Thoroughbred

Tax relief, increasing stakes, increased crowds, unsatisfied demand from Hong Kong and Singapore for proven NZ bloodstock. All good reasons why NOW is a good time to make an investment in the thoroughbred industry. And, to add some icing to the cake, at Ellerslie in January 2009, there will be a one million dollar race for two year olds, restricted to yearlings acquired at the 2008 Karaka sales. All four of the Fortuna 2008 Purchases (now two year olds) are eligible for this race (see Opportunities Page for more detail).
To add further excitement to the mix, the Minister for Racing announced on August 15th that there will be four new races with Stakes of One Million Dollars or more to add to the existing two Million Dollar plus races, making Six races in the 2008/09 season that will carry stakes of One Million Dollars plus. The four new races to carry the Million Dollar plus stakes are the 2000 Guineas and the Mercedes Derby (both for three years olds), the Telegraph Handicap and the Auckland Cup.
