Thirteen months after he last raced, 5yo Gelding, EATONS GOLD (Jet Spur-Road Ranger) returned to racing in dramatic style, clearing out from his rivals to win by two lengths at the line in a Class 4 event over 1100 metres at Kanji racecourse in Singapore.
No stranger to the winners circle, having previously won four times in Singapore, EATONS GOLD had an enforced layoff after undergoing knee surgery in April 2014, followed by a long recuperative spell in Malaysia. He had returned to Singapore in great physical condition and had been very forward in his work in the weeks leading up to his return to racing. Ridden by Te Akau Racing’s very experienced senior apprentice Shafiq Rusof, EATON raced just off the speed, was on the bit most of the race and only needed the reins shaken at him and a couple of waves of the whip for him to assert his dominance in the run home. Fortuna Director, John Galvin, was quick to acknowledge the training effort by Premiership leading trainer, Mark Walker in having EATONS GOLD ready to win fresh up from his long break. ” Mark had EATONS surgery, post surgery treatment, rehabilitation at the National Stud in Malaysia plus a solid pre training programme in Sheree Hamilton’s care at Penang all mapped out well in advance. Patience was the key and we have all been rewarded for that patience tonight.” he said.
Raced by the Fortuna Eatons Gold Syndicate, an ownership group of 29 people, EATONS GOLD has now won over S$260k in prize money during his time in Singapore.
