FORTUNA 4yo Gelding EATONS GOLD made it three wins from sixteen Singapore starts when taking out a Class 4 event over 1200 metres at Kranji racecourse Sunday. At this 3rd run back from a break, EATON was superbly ridden by Singapore’s leading apprentice, Shafiq Rusof, who settled the horse nicely in about mid field, then bought him wide as they cornered and sustained a strong winning run down the length of the straight.

EATONS GOLD was not favoured by punters tonight, starting at odds of 33 to 1. Trainer, Mark Walker, is having a purple patch of form in Singapore with three winners on Friday night and two more on Sunday and continues to hold a solid lead in the Trainers Premiership in Singapore.
In recent weeks, the progeny of DARCI BRAHMA have swept all before them. This exciting young Sire, with just three crops racing, has leapt up the General Sires list and now sits in second placing, behind the mighty O’Reilly. Every week, he is producing more winners across the spectrum. Two weeks ago, 3yo Filly, LUCKY COUNTRY won the Oaks Prelude at Taranaki and is now one of the favourites for the very prestigious Group One NZ Oaks at Trentham in March. The very next day, the 3yo Gelding, VALBUENA downed the previously unbeaten HABIBI in the Group 2 Avondale Guineas at Ellerslie. Then last weekend, 2yo RECITE defeated the unbeaten BOUNDING in the time honoured Group 2 Matamata Breeders Stakes and just an hour later, NASHVILLE humbled the best Weight for Age gallopers in NZ ( Ocean Park, Veyron and Final Touch, Better Than Ever) in taking out the Group 1 Haunui Farm WFA Classic at Otaki, a race won by DARCI BRAHMA as a 3yo in 2006
Overall the DARCI BRAHMA statistics make great reading. From 68 Runners so far this season, 40 have been winners with 61 wins between them. These are impressive winners to runners statistics by any standards.
So, it is a great time to acquire a Filly or Colt by DARCI BRAHMA. At the recent Karaka Yearling Sales, FORTUNA did just that, i.e acquired a Filly and A Colt and how offer these two fine yearlings for public syndication.
By DARCI BRAHMA out of SWEET DREAMS BABY ( bu Von Nistelroy), this Filly is a stunner. Prepared for the Sales by Janine Dunlop of Phoenix Park, Janine described her as ” the pick of the fillies in my draft.”
An early foal (13th September), this Filly is well grown and developed. From an International family, she is a beautiful walking filly with character and athleticism. She was knocked down to us well under what we were prepared to pay for her. She will be registered for the Karaka Million event and will also be registered for the new Pearl Series for Fillies which commences this year. This Series effectively offers an additional $2.6m of bonuses on a number of specified races in addition to the $2.8m in normal prizemoney available. Racing fillies in New Zealand is about to take a giant step forward with this new Series.

By DARCI BRAHMA out of the Group winning racemare, SPIN N GRIN, this Colt is a lovely athlete. As with the Filly, we were prepared to pay a lot more for him that we did, From the draft of the OAKS STUD, he has size, scope, athleticism and a pedigree to match.
A nice early foal ( 22nd August), this Colt is out of a mare ( SPIN ‘n GRIN), who was good enough to win the Eight Carat Classic, a Group 2 event for fillies raced at Ellerslie over the Christmas Carnival. She also ran 2nd in the prestigious Group 1 Te Aroha NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes. A handsome Bay, this leggy Colt has all of the physical attributes necessary to be a Classic 3yo performer.

EATONS GOLD ( Jet Spur-Road Ranger) steps out for his 3rd race in his current campaign at Singapore’s Kranji racecourse this coming Sunday 3rd March. EATON struck a wet track last time and while looking poised to mount a strong challenge at the top of the straight, just found the going a bit testing over the concluding stages.
He has trained on nicely since that race and looks well placed in this weekend’s event, a Class 4 race over 1200 metres on the Polytrack. He will be ridden by Singapore’s leading apprentice jockey, Shafiq Rusof, who will take 25kg’s in weight off EATONS back, courtesy of his apprentice allowance.
Trainer Mark Walker is well pleased with his charge and thinks he is a strong first four chance in the race.

Promising 3yo, READY FORTUNE ( More Than Ready-Bahira) has his second start in Singapore Sunday 24th February. READY FORTUNE debuted in Singapore earlier in February on the Poly Track surface and raced fairly, although was ridden closer to the pace than was planned. This Sunday, he races on the Turf track, which according to Trainer Mark Walker, he will prefer. Drawn wide for the 1200 metre trip, the race plan is for rider, Singapore’s leading apprentice, Shafiq Rusof, to ride the horse quietly and have him do his best work at the finish.
Two runners for Fortuna Thoroughbred Syndicators in Singapore Friday 22nd February First up is the 4yo LORD ROBERTO (Encosta de Lagp-{rozed Glory) a previous winner in Singapore over the 1600 metre trip, but who tonight attempts the 1800 metre distance for the first time. General assessment of LORD ROBERTO is that the further he goes, the better he will be, as he is a dour staying type. LORD ROBERTO will be ridden by Singapore’s leading apprentice, Sahfiq Rusof, who will claim 2kgs. Race time is 7.20pm Singapore time, 12.20am( Saturday morning) NZ time.
In race nine, VON SNITZEL ( Snitzel-Lumir) resumes after a long spell over 1000 metres. The wide barrier draw makes it tricky for him, but given a fast pace up front, he can be right in it at the finish. VON SNITZEL will also be ridden by Shafiq Rusof, who claims 2kgs. Race time is 10.20pm Singapore time and 3.20am ( Sat morning) NZ Time.
FORTUNA’s 4yo gelding, LORD ROBERTO steps up to his favoured 1600 metres in Singapore tonight. Already a winner over the distance in Singapore on the Poly Track, tonight LORD ROBERTO gets a go on the Turf surface.
A solid staying type, LORD ROBERTO will be ridden by Te Akau Stable Apprentice and the leading Apprentice jockey in Singapore, Shafiq Rusof, who takes 2kgs off the horses back.
A potential Singapore Derby candidate (run in July), connections are expecting a strong run from LORD ROBERTO tonight.

After running on tighter provincial South Island tracks in recent starts, FORTUNA’s 3yo Filly, KAYLEEN ( Towkay-Indomitable), now gets her chance on the roomy Riccarton track, Wednesday 13th February. Coming back to the 1200 metre distance, down the Riccarton chute, the race plan is to ride KAYLEEN with some cover, in order to get her to relax more in her racing. FORTUNA Director, John Galvin, explains. ” She is a naturally speedy filly, who just likes to get up and run, however, this natural ablity has meant she has been running on the pace or in the lead and she has not learned to relax and drop the bridle in her racing. Tomorrow, we want rider, Matt Cameron, to settle her in behind the speed with cover, get her to relax, have her come off the bit and then use her speed at the end of the race. The Riccarton chute presents a good opportunity for us to teach her a bit more about the racing game.”

PRE RACE COMMENT FROM TRAINER MARK WALKER:
“I am really happy with Eaton’s Gold heading into Friday night’s race. He gets top weight however our leading apprentice, Shafiq, knows Eatons Gold very well and takes a valuable 2kgs off his back. The 1000m is a touch short of his best distance but while he is in a very fresh state I expect him to run a handy race first up, with number 2 looking the one to beat in this field.”
