About Deception

Deception has been identified by Champion Singapore Trainer, Mark Walker as an ideal type for Singapore Racing.

Now a Two Old Gelding, Deception was acquired as a yearling by the China Horse Club/Newgate partnership, who fancied him as a Stallion prospect due to his very strong pedigree, for A$750,000 at the 2020 Magic Million Yearling Sale. However after two trials and showing signs of real coltyness, his ownership group decided to sell him unreserved, as they do not race geldings, preferring to focus on Stallion prospects

Fortuna acquired Deception at the April 2021 Inglis Online Sale for just A$65,000 and we had him gelded within a couple of days of purchase. He is now agisting at Shipton Lodge in New South Wales awaiting to enter quarantine ahead of traveling to Singapore early July 2021 – after exiting quarantine in Singapore, he will be prepared to race by Fortuna’s Singapore Trainer Mark Walker and should be ready to have his first race in Singapore late October / early November 2021. He has been fully vetted for Singapore and approved for entry into Singapore by the Malaysian Racing Authority.

As a non winner Deception will be eligible to contest Restricted Maiden Grade events in Singapore, a Grade which carries S$75,000 of prizemoney (approx NZ$83,000). Once winning in that Grade, he will then be eligible to race in Novice Grade, a Grade which also carries S$75,000 of prizemoney (approx NZ$83,000). As a Three Year Old in the 2021/2122 Season Deception will be eligible for the very lucrative Three Year Old Series run during May and June 2022.

Pedigree

Deception possesses an outstanding pedigree. He is by the top Stallion, I Am Invincible, the Leading Sire by winners in Australia for the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons, the Leading Sire by wins in the current season and the Sire of over 600 winners including 64 Stakes Winners. Deception’s Dam, Friday Hussy (by Hussonet) is a five time City winner on the track in Australia – she is dam of four named foals, three of them raced and all winners. This is the family of Multiple Group One winner and Australian Horse Of The Year in 2008, Weekend Hussler.

Training & Race History

Deception was prepared by Sydney based Trainers, Paul and Peter Snowden– he had two trials in Sydney, the first in December 2020 where he finished 3rd beaten a length, the second in March 2021 where he finished 6th beaten 3.1 lengths. At that point his Trainers advised the Ownership Group that he needed to be gelded and accordingly, they made the decision to sell him.

Physical Type

A strong, handsome, athletic Bay Gelding, standing 16 hands high and weighing 520 kgs, DECEPTION has impressive physical attributes match his pedigree – he passed his Singapore entry Vet examination performed on 27th April with flying colours. Australian bred Sprinting/Miler types have had an exceptional record in Singapore over the years. Watch Deception parading on 3 May.

Trainer’s view (Mark Walker)

“I was impressed with his first trial in December and his March trial was satisfactory – our research indicated that he did need to be gelded – a horse with good size, an impressive physical type, very sound and now gelded, I am tipping he can win races in Singapore very quickly – John Galvin and I have bought several horses of this profile over the past couple of years and all have gone well in Singapore – he has a bright future up here.”

Syndicator’s view (John Galvin)

“Mark Walker and I have been making a bit of an art form of selecting well bred tried horses at “budget” prices over the last year or two – Federation, Red Rover, Hadeer, Entertainer, Elliot Ness and King Arthur all being good examples. Now that he has been gelded and enjoying a good paddock spell in NSW, we believe he can do a good job for us in Singapore – he is an extraordinary physical type who, now having been gelded, should benefit immensely from the regime we have applied since acquiring him.”
